Peterhead won a low key north-east derby with the only goal of the game. The Blue Toon set themselves up perfectly for next week's Scottish cup tie with Rangers as they made it nine points out of nine since the draw matched them against the Scottish champions.

Their goal came in the 26th minute when Bobby Linn sent over a perfect cross for Keith Gibson to head powerfully past Forfar keeper Sean Murdoch.

Forfar had actually started the game brightly but they failed to make the most of a series of teasing crosses across goal.

Moments after Peterhead went ahead, Forfar should have equalised when Darren Gribben played though Martin Cameron, but he opted for power and blasted over the bar.

The second half saw chances at a premium, and Peterhead looked happy with their slender advantage.

Four minutes from time substitute Jon Voigt forced a save from the Peterhead keeper with a snap-shot from the edge of the box.

In the dying moments Allan Youngson should have wrapped things up for the visitors, but he just failed to get the decisive touch in front of goal as the ball was played in.
