Cowdenbeath maintained their push for third place with a comprehensive victory over already-promoted Peterhead.

The game came to life after just six minutes when the home side took the lead. Paul McHale's perfectly-weighted cross from the right found Liam Buchanan unmarked, and he had the simple task of heading beyond Barry Thompson in the Peterhead goal.

That lead could have been doubled six minutes later when Gary Fusco forced a great save from Thompson, while after 15 minutes Buchanan again found himself unmarked, but his header went straight at the keeper.

Cowdenbeath's Darren Gribben forced a great save again after 17 minutes before the home side deservedly doubled their advantage a minute later - Innes Ritchie heading home Marc Millar's corner. The scorer went off with a bad head injury a minute later, but Cowdenbeath thoroughly merited their half-time advantage.

Peterhead should have pulled one back just after the re-start, but David Hagen somehow screwed the ball over with the goal gaping.

McHale's superb curling shot put the result beyond doubt for Cowdenbeath after 63 minutes before Darren McGregor tapped home an easy fourth from a David Williams cross four minutes later.

All in all, the Cowdenbeath fans enjoyed their side's best performance of the season.
