Peterhead V Elgin at Balmoor Stadium - Match Preview

Strachan sits out City visit

Ryan Strachan will miss out for Peterhead when they host their former Highland League rivals Elgin.

Strachan's suspension adds to the Blue Toon's problems, with injuries already accounting for Scott Ross (ankle), Davie Ross (knee) and Callum Macdonald (knee).

However, Martin Bavidge, Dean Cowie and Bryan Gilfillan have recovered from knocks to be included in the squad.

Ahead of the game, manager Jim McInally said: "Neither Elgin or ourselves have won many games recently but they have still been scoring goals, which is not something we have been doing.

"Stopping them finding the net will give us a platform to win this game and with things as tight as they are in the race for a play-off place this would be a great game to win."

Elgin will check on Jamie Duff and David Niven ahead of kick-off.

The defensive duo are showing signs of improvement following knee injuries but they will undergo late fitness tests.

Ross Jack has already ruled out Cieran McLean (knee), Ross McKinnon (ankle) and Dennis Wyness (hamstring) with the Borough Briggs boss looking for his men to build on a positive ending to their 5-3 defeat at home to Queen's Park in midweek.

"We were five goals down in that game but scored three times to give ourselves a boost going into this derby game," said Jack.

"That will help us go into this game with a bit more confidence and, whilst we are low on numbers, we will battle for everything."
